Promoted National Super League side Soy United coach Jeffers Odongo believes they can qualify for the top-tier league on their first attempt.
Speaking ahead of their NSL bow on Sunday against Kisumu All Stars, the experienced tactician said they are targeting a top-three finish in the 2025/26 season.

The club was promoted alongside Kabati Youth and Kisii-based Gucha Stars.

Three teams will qualify directly for the Sportpesa League in the ongoing season after the Football Kenya Federation scrapped the promotion play-off.

"Qualifying for the Sportpesa League after one season is achievable. Despite the uncertainty over the promotion, we focused on our pre-season. We had a solid pre-season and the boys are raring to go," said the tactician.

During their pre-season games, they only lost 2-0 against Kariobangi Sharks. They had identical 3-2 wins against Nairobi United and Sofapaka before battling to a barren draw against Shabana FC.

Odongo, who previously served as an assistant at SportPesa League sides Kakamega Homeboyz, KCB and the defunct Chemelil Sugar, said his charges have what it takes to qualify for the top-tier.

"It's my first time coaching in the NSL, but I have gained valuable experience in the Premier League, where I served under experienced tacticians," he noted.

He signed eight experienced players.

"The new players have NSL and KPL experience. I believe they will help the young players who helped us qualify for the NSL," he added.

"We want to start the league on a positive note. Our target is maximum points against Kisumu All Stars."

Elsewhere, Gucha Stars' debut was again rescheduled after their clash against Vihiga United, set for Friday at Gusii Stadium, was pushed to this afternoon at Sony Green Stadium in Awendo, Migori County.
