Kayole Starlets head coach Mary Adhiambo says her newly promoted side is ready to challenge for the title in the top tier after a spirited climb from the National Super League.

Odhiambo is banking on their nine new signings and their preparations to compete with established sides like Kenya Police Bullets, whom they face in their opener.

“We have retained most of our players from last season, and the ones we’ve brought on board to boost our team,” she added.

The new arrivals are Mary Wali (Bandari), Euphresia Shilwatso (Bungoma), Eunice Nabwoba (Uganda), Praxidies Shivakhwa (Milima Queens) and Faith Naliaka (Gene Queens), Foscah Kavenge (Zetech/ Yanga Princess), goalkeeper Jacinta Nabwile (Kayole Starlets Junior Academy) and Parloma Fridah, who was in the provisional squad of the Rising Stars for Wafcon Qualifiers.

With their league opener, initially set for September 27 against champions, Kenya Police Bullets, now pushed back, Adhiambo says the extra time favours her team.

"Police are a very good side. They’ve been in Cecafa, and their signings are very strong. They also started pre-season before other teams and are very fit. They have had a good pre-season and will no doubt be a force to reckon with. Playing them as the first opponent gives us a lot of confidence,” she said.

Odhiambo noted, “We will try our best to get the three points because no one goes to a war to lose.”

She added, “With the calibre of players we have this season, we will try and push for success. Our objective is to finish top of the table,” she said.

She also promised to use the top teams as their benchmark, praising Vihiga Queens, Ulinzi and Kibera for their consistency and resurgence. Defender Hellen Aketch described their match against her former club, Kenya Police Bullets, as both a challenge and a motivation.

“Most people tremble when we play them, but this only builds our confidence. It’s all mentality and positive attitude. I used to be in that team, and now I am going there as an opponent. We must fight. We can’t all win,” she said.

Okech added that the fans’ fundraisers for standout players motivate the whole squad. “We are encouraging and motivating ourselves to do our best,” Oketch said.
