Newly appointed South Coast Pirates RFC head coach Tony “Lujesi” Khadambi faces the challenge of steering the club back to the Kenya Cup.

Khadambi, currently player/coach at Uganda’s Jinja Hippos, was named head coach on Friday, succeeding Kevin Amiani, who led the team for three seasons, including their debut Kenya Cup campaign in 2024/25 before relegation. Amiani left the club in May.

“Honestly, I was both surprised and humbled to be selected among many strong candidates for this role,” said Khadambi. “I wanted the opportunity, but I wasn’t sure I would get it. Having previously spent two weeks with the Pirates earlier in the year, I saw firsthand the hunger and potential in the squad.”

“That experience planted a seed, and I felt this was a team I could contribute to in a meaningful way. Now that I have been given the trust, my focus is to give my all and serve the club with the dedication it deserves."

Khadambi boasts a rich rugby pedigree, having played for Impala, KCB, Homeboyz, and captained the Kenya U20 (Chipu) 7s team. As a coach, he’s credited with transforming Moi University’s Arsonists, and has also worked with Tororo Crest and Jinja Hippos in Uganda.

At Pirates, his mission includes strengthening Championship performance, nurturing local talent, and instilling a philosophy rooted in ambition, resilience, and community.

Club secretary Chris Egesa said: “We are delighted to welcome Coach Khadambi on board. His wealth of experience and proven leadership both on and off the pitch make him the right man to guide us in the new season.”

“His passion for the game, deep understanding of player development, and commitment to community rugby make him the right fit as we chart the next chapter of our journey.”
