KCB aim to finish the Sevens season in style at this weekend’s season-ending Dala Sevens tournament in Kisumu.
The bankers need 14 points or a Cup semifinal to clinch their fifth title.
KCB lead the standings with 104 points, nine ahead of Strathmore Leos. Menengai Oilers sit third with 77, Kabras fourth with 64.
Interim coach Andrew Amonde welcomes the challenge after five intense weeks across four counties. “It's been a good journey winning three of five tournaments and playing in every final. Now we want to bring the trophy home by winning in Kisumu,” he said.
Amonde has made three changes, recalling Kenya Sevens co-captain George Ooro, who missed Kabeberi, while Tyson Maina and Kevin Ochineg are set to debut.
KCB faces a manageable Pool C against Embu RFC, Mwamba, and Homeboyz. “We will take it one match at a time, stay grounded, and tick the boxes in the pool stage,” Amonde added.
Strathmore Leos, without key players Gabriel Ayimba, Nygel Amaitsa, and Shem Okola, face a tough Pool D including hosts Kisumu, Menengai Oilers, and Impala. Coach Willis Ojal urged resilience: “It's not over until the final whistle. Despite injuries, we want to go all out and see where we end up.”
Defending champions Kabras aim to improve on their semifinal finish at Kabeberi. They lead Pool A against Catholic University Monks, MMUST, and Nakuru RFC.
Assistant coach Marlin Mukolwe believes the team has found the right formula, boosted by Kelvin Wekesa’s return from France. “We lost in the semis last week, but I’m proud of the boys’ effort. Now that we’re near ‘home,’ I’m confident we can go all the way,” he said.
Daystar Falcons, finalists last weekend, look to extend their run in Pool B against Quins, Nondies, and Mombasa Sports Club.
