Shabana coach Paul Okidi said they are now set for the start of the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League after a successful tour of Uganda.

The Kisii-based side played three friendly matches in Mbale, Eastern Uganda, during their one-week sojourn. The Glamour Boys began the tour with a 4-1 win over Mbale Select before edging second division side Kataka 1-0.

They concluded the tour with a barren draw against Uganda’s top-tier league side, Police FC.

Okidi said they achieved their target.

“The tour was very successful. I am satisfied. We had three friendly matches against Ugandan teams, which helped us gauge our pre-season preparations,” he said.

The club have so far signed three players and parted ways with more than 10. Among the new players are midfielder Biron Otieno from Kariobangi Sharks, forward Humphrey Obino from Murang’a Seal and midfielder David Odoyo from Tusker.

“We went for players who will help us. The three we have signed will be key in our campaign next season. We hope to add more in the coming week as we continue with our pre-season,” said Okidi.

Harambee Stars forwards Austin Odongo and Brian Michira are expected to join the club’s training on Monday following the conclusion of the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN).

The club will play a high-profile friendly game against Tanzania’s Pamba Jiji FC at Gusii Stadium on Sunday during celebrations to mark the inaugural Shabana Day. The club is expected to unveil its new players during the celebrations.

Okidi said: “It will be a good game for the boys. We want to win against Pamba Jiji, which is a good team. We also want to entertain our fans before the league kicks off.”

Former Shabana forward Mathew Tegisi plays for the Tanzanian side alongside Brian Eshihanda and Saphan Siwa. The club is handled by veteran coach Francis Baraza.

Shabana will start their 2025/26 season with a home encounter against promoted Administration Police Service (APS) Bomet at Gusii Stadium on September 20.
