Debutants Agai Mixed made a remarkable debut at the 22nd edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games after beating A.P.E Rugunga from Rwanda 2-0 in boys’ football in Kakamega on Friday.

Agai, coached by the principal, Gordon Akoko, scored through Moses Otieno and David Omondi.

Speaking after the game, Akoko said: “It was a good start and I  am happy with the win. It gives the players confidence since they are playing at this stage for the first time.”

Elsewhere, Kenya’s Highway suffered a 3-1 loss to C.G.F.K Kicukiro from Rwanda at the newly refurbished Bukhungu Stadium, while Butere Boys battled to a 1-1 draw against Uganda’s Buddo.

In girls’ volleyball, defending champions Kesogon recorded their second win after overcoming Mwitoti 3-1 (25-11, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17) while Kenya’s other representatives, Bishop Sulumeti Girls', humbled Uganda’s Bukedea Comprehensive by straight sets of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17. 

In the boys’ category, Kenya’s Mwaluphamba suffered a second successive loss after going down 3-2 to Standard from Uganda. Defending champions St Luc beat Malava Boys' 3-2 in another game. Kenya’s other team, Gogo Mixed, suffered a straight-sets loss St Phillippe.

In girls’ basketball, national champions Butere Girls' recorded their second win of the competition after a narrow 57-51 triumph over compatriots Olympic Secondary.  

On Saturday, Kenya’s rugby 7s champions St Peter’s Mumias will seek to continue with their impressive start when they face London College. They opened their campaign with a hard-fought 19-14 win over Friends School Bwake.

Bwake will be up against London College Maya while Bungoma High face a tough task against Bwake in an all-Kenyan affair.

In the girls’ category, St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale will hope to get their campaign back on track when they face St Theresa’s Kithimu, while favourites Kinale will entertain Paul Harris.

Tough encounters are expected in rugby 15s, where Kenyan rivals will face off. Vihiga Boys' will play Upper Hill School while Kisii School will renew rivalry with regional defending champions, All Saints Embu. All Saints will tackle Uganda’s Busoga College in another game.
