Nyanza secondary schools rugby 7s champions St Mary’s School, Yala, and former champions Maseno School will renew their rivalry at the regional Term Two games in Kisumu between July 8 and 12.

They are in Pool ‘A’ alongside St Joseph’s Rapogi.

Maseno School coach Nick Abok termed the game as ‘the final before the final’.

“Yala versus Maseno (matches) are always cagey. It will be a 50-50 game which stakeholders, including old boys, will keenly follow,” said Abok.

“I hope the boys will take their chances. We know their (Yala) weaknesses, which we shall exploit. Our ultimate target is to qualify for the nationals. We have been building this young team and are now looking forward to a good outing.”

J.J Masime’s Friends School, Anjego, headline Pool ‘B’ alongside Mbita High School and Sawagongo High School.

Masime, the Anjego coach and principal, says his charges are ready to fight for the regional title.

“I have a mature team that has played together for three years. They are capable of challenging the big boys for the title,” said Masime.

Kisii County champions Cardinal Otunga face Homa Bay’s Agoro Sare and St Paul’s Gekano High School in Pool ‘C’ while Kisumu County champions Otieno Oyoo, regional 15s champions Kisii School and Nyambaria School from Nyamira are in Pool ‘D’.

Cardinal Otunga head coach Edwin Metobo said they are targeting the final.

“The boys are ready to compete against any team. We are county champions like any other team and want to properly represent Kisii County.”
