Over 200 golfers are set to grace the Kakamega Sports Club fairways this weekend for the Lady Captain’s Golf tournament.
The four-day spectacle has attracted a stellar cast of top amateurs, club golfers, rising junior stars and corporate guests from across the country.
Action gets underway on Saturday at 6:30 am with the main 18-hole stroke play showdown.
Players will battle it out across multiple categories, including men’s, ladies’, juniors and guests, all eyeing top honours and a dazzling array of prizes.
Beyond the competitive fire, participants can look forward to a premium golf experience, from lush greens and crisp fairways to a prize-giving gala.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Lady Captain Beatrice Otieno said she was overwhelmed by the support and excitement building around the event.
“This tournament is not just a celebration of my captaincy, but a celebration of the sport we love, the friendships we have built, and the bright future of golf in our region. I am truly humbled by the incredible support from the golfing community," she said.
Otieno assured participants of impeccable playing conditions. "The course is in pristine condition and we can't wait to hit the fairways,” she added.
Club officials have hailed Lady Captain Otieno for her visionary leadership and tireless dedication in curating such a high-profile event, terming it a landmark moment in the club’s history and a major boost for golf in the region.
However, the weekend's action is only part of the story. The festivities swing into motion on Wednesday with a spirited Club Nite, followed by the Caddies tournament on Friday, where over 100 caddies will showcase their skills and passion. Saturday will serve up a sports double-header with a tennis tournament running alongside the main golf event, adding a multi-sport flair to the celebration.
On Sunday, attention turns to the future of the game as over 80 youngsters compete in a Junior tournament, a bold testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.
A pool tournament will also be held, capping off the weekend in a fun, inclusive style. In a fitting blend of sport and innovation, the tournament will also feature the official launch of Tindi, a groundbreaking app that blends tech, youth culture and business in a unique way set to reshape the local sporting scene.
