Kenya Police FC defeated Talanta 1-0 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Sunday, putting them a heartbeat away from accomplishing their lofty dream of a maiden Kenyan Premier League title.

With only two rounds left in the season, the law enforcers are six points clear at the top, igniting hope and fervour among their devoted supporters.

The tension was palpable as the whistle blew, signalling the start of an encounter that would either solidify their dominance or cast shadows of doubt over their title aspirations.

It was David Simiyu who emerged as the hero of the day, finding the back of the net with a well-placed shot that sent the fans into a frenzy.

A tsunami of cheers washed over the stands, carrying with it the collective sigh of relief and the joyous explosion of victory among Police players at the full-time whistle.

A visibly elated Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije urged his charges to step on the gas pedal in their remaining encounters to seal their dream maiden title.

"All we have to do now is to win all our remaining matches and we are good to go," he said.

"Winning the title will be a very special gift to our fans who have stood with us throughout the season. That's what we are all looking forward to," he said.

Tusker FC, a perennial powerhouse in Kenyan football, faced an unexpected setback, suffering a staggering 7-1 defeat at the hands of Sofapaka.

In contrast, Gor Mahia, currently in third place, managed to salvage a point with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Murang’a Seal. Despite the setback, Gor head coach Sinisa Mihic remained optimistic.

"Our aspirations for the title are still very much alive. We can still clinch the trophy if we win all our remaining matches, including the final one against Police," he said.

"They now have 61 points and we are at 54. We could manage nine more this season," he added.

Any hopes Shabana FC had of clinching the title went up in smoke following a heartwrenching 1-0 loss to Mara Sugar at Gusii Stadium.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards played out a barren draw against Bandari, while Kakamega Homeboyz showcased their prowess with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks at Mumias Complex.
