Malkia Strikers will train in Vietnam before heading to Thailand for the Women's Volleyball World Championship, scheduled to run from August 22 to September 7.
The week-long training camp in Vietnam will be part of the team’s final preparations after the conclusion of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League end-of-season playoffs.
The league starts today at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium.
KVF president Charles Nyaberi confirmed that the team’s provisional squad will be named once the playoffs conclude, after which the selected players will proceed to a residential training camp.
He added that the camp will focus on sharpening the team’s tactics and building cohesion ahead of the global tournament, with the trip to Vietnam expected to include a warm-up competition to test their readiness.
“We’re focused on the playoffs, and once we’re done, the technical bench will name the squad that will hit camp to start the preparations,” said Nyaberi.
“We’re also finalising a camp in Vietnam and that will boost the team’s preparedness before the serve-off in Thailand,” he added.
Players are currently with their respective clubs, preparing for the highly anticipated playoffs, which will begin from the quarter-final stage.
Nyaberi stated that the playoffs are expected to be intense as clubs battle for the national title, with top players looking to impress selectors ahead of the naming of the national team squad.
The ten-time African champions will face a tough challenge in Group G, where they are pooled alongside former European champions Poland, Germany, and Vietnam.
Cameroon, who are also representing Africa, are in Pool H alongside reigning champions Serbia, Olympic gold medalists Japan, and Ukraine. Egypt will compete in Pool A, which features tournament hosts the Netherlands and Sweden.
The championship promises to be a competitive affair, with top teams from across the world eyeing global glory.
