The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) will convene its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today to set the stage for a critical road map leading to its highly anticipated elections on April 24, 2025.

Comprising 26 member federations, NOC-K’s diverse body includes; Athletics Kenya, Kenya Basketball Federation, Kenya Boxing Federation, Kenya Cycling Federation, Football Kenya Federation, Kenya Handball Federation, Kenya Hockey Union, Kenya Judo Association, Tennis Kenya, Kenya Shooting Federation.

Others are the Kenya Rowing and Canoe Federation, Table Tennis Association, Taekwondo Association, Volleyball Federation, Amateur Weightlifting Association, Amateur Wrestling, Rugby Union, Kenya Golf, Karate Federation, Softball Association, Kenya Fencing, Kenya Squash, Netball Association, Bowling Association, Triathlon Federation and Baseball Federation.

NOC-K secretary general, Francis Mutuku, in a statement, said each federation would have two representatives for the AGM.

“Each federation should send two delegates one of whom must be either president or the secretary general as well as a female,” the statement read.

The federation’s current boss is Olympic 10,000m silver medallist and former world marathon record holder two-time Paul Tergat, who assumed office in 2017 unopposed.

This followed his election as an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member during the 125th session in Buenos Aires 2013.

Under Tergat’s stewardship, Kenya has enjoyed commendable Olympic success, securing four gold medals in both the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Games.

Tergat succeeded the legendary Kipchoge Keino, who served for nearly two decades ( 1999-2017 ) and presided over five Olympic cycles, including Kenya’s golden eras in Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016, where the country bagged six gold medals each.

NOC-K has further laid out a detailed road map for its 2025 elections to ensure a transparent and well-structured process.

The election roadmap begins on February 10, 2025, with the federations nominating an electoral board. The journey begins with member federations nominating suitable companies to serve as the electoral board from February 10 to 20, 2025.

This will be followed by the approval and adoption of the proposed board between March 1 and 10. From March 11 to 20, federations will hold joint meetings with the electoral board to finalise and adopt key elements such as electoral rules and regulations, the code of conduct and the electoral calendar.

By March 28, the board will issue a 21-day notice for the electoral congress, paving the way for the nomination period set for April 3 to 10.

Once nominations close, the electoral board will verify the candidates’ eligibility and circulate a list of approved names by April 17, exactly seven days before the elections.

The polls are scheduled for April 24, with an appeals window opening immediately after, on April 25, to address any disputes.

The newly elected officials will officially take over office on May 8, and by May 25, NOC-K will notify the Sports Registrar of the new leadership.
