Barry Otieno, the immediate former Football Kenya Federation secretary general, will run for the federation’s presidency during the national elections in December.
Otieno resigned from his secretary’s role last week and announced his candidature on Sunday, a day before the deadline for the submission of papers to the FKF Electoral Board.
In a statement, he said: “My commitment and vision are simple, to build a stronger, more inclusive and more successful footballing nation, by developing football beyond the pitch in four main areas: Club empowerment, improved governance, holistic development and grassroots to glory.”
“Our team believes in the immense potential of Kenyan football. With your support the potential into a reality. Together we can build a federation that not only wins on the pitch but also excels in governance, development and administration,” he said.
He committed to providing young football players with a platform to reach their full potential by laying out distinct routes for success from youth to professional football.
“We will invest in capacity building for football administrators in key areas including commercialisation of football assets, communication and marketing, legal aspects and strategic planning,” he said.
Otieno joined Nick Mwendwa’s administration in 2016 as the communications manager.
His resume was broadened to include marketing positions, and following then CEO Robert Muthomi’s abrupt departure, he was promoted.
He joins a long list keen on replacing Mwendwa including former
