TIME FOR KNOCKOUTS

Three matches on the cards as KBF playoffs begin on Sunday

However, only three matches have been scheduled since some regular matches are still to be finalised.

In Summary

• Nairobi City Thunder, who lead the standings with 44 points, face eighth-placed University of Nairobi Terrorists — who stunned United States International University (USIU) Tigers to make the cut.

• A Lower Division encounter will see William Ochieng’s Snipers play Strathmore University Blades Team Two in another cracking pairing that, on paper, can go either way.

The Kenya National Basketball League playoffs throw off on Sunday, competitions secretary Joseph Amoko revealed on Wednesday.

However, only three matches have been scheduled since some regular matches are yet to be finalised.

“I have planned only three matches this weekend since some regular season matches will be played on Saturday. Once this is done, we will do the final fixtures involving the rest of the teams in the five divisions,” said Amoko.

Nairobi City Thunder, who lead the standings with 44 points, face eighth-placed University of Nairobi Terrorists — who stunned United States International University (USIU) Tigers to make the cut.

The other games will see women’s champions Kenya Ports Authority (44 points) travel to Nairobi to take on Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers.

A Lower Division encounter will see William Ochieng’s Snipers play Strathmore University Blades Team Two in another cracking pairing that, on paper, can go either way.

There are two matches on the card this weekend whose outcomes will determine the final standings. Fifth-placed former champions, Ulinzi Warriors, confront fourth-placed USIU Tigers in a men’s top game.

Third-placed two-time women’s champions Equity Bank Hawks face TH3 Swish on the same day. The Nakuru-based side is out of the post-season playoffs.

“The quarterfinals will be played in a best-of-three series while the semifinals and the finals will be played in a best-of-five series,” said Amoko.

There will be 40 playoff matches across the five KBF league categories. The winning men’s and women’s teams in the Premier League will book tickets to the Africa Club Championships.
