Basketball sensation Madina Okot is over the moon after signing with the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the United States.

On X (formerly Twitter), the Kenyan international said: "I am very excited to play for the incredible fan base, staff, and programme at Mississippi State. I know the fans will embrace my hustle and effort on both ends of the floor."

She also praised coach Sam Purcell and his staff for developing talent, expressing confidence that they will help her achieve her goals.

"I can’t wait to get to work with my teammates and coaches," she added.

She is currently training with the national 3x3 team in Miramas as they chase qualification for the Paris Olympic Games.

Initially, Okot was a volleyball player at Bishop Sulumeti High School but this changed with time. She currently plays for Zetech University and has also turned out for coastal side Kenya Ports Authority.

Okot's talent came to the fore when she guided the national U23 team to victory at the 2022 FIBA Nations League Africa, earning a spot in the World Championships in Romania.

In addition to her success with the U23 team, Okot showcased her skills when she helped Kenya to a quarterfinal finish in the 3x3 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

She made her national 5-aside (Kenya Lionesses) debut during the FIBA Women's AfroBasket qualifiers in 2023.

Her stellar performance, averaging 9.8 points per game and 14.4 rebounds, solidified her status as a rising star in Kenyan basketball.

Okot linked up with Natalie Akinyi, Mercy Wanyama and Hilda Indasi to with the 2023 3x3 Africa Cup championship.

Akinyi was named the Most Valuable Player as they beat hosts Egypt to put them on course for Paris Olympic qualification.

Okot nailed 21 points last weekend as Sparks beat Swords 63-38.

Zetech coach Maurice Obilo gave Okot her blessings, saying: "Zetech Sparks have created sparks. We have lost several players, but someone's future is what is more important."

"This motivates the teammates to work even harder."

"Her transfer is confirmed but still a work in progress," he added.

"I am, however, excited for her and, as a team, will accord her all the support she needs. We will miss her. This is an achievement for the team, for me as a coach, and for the university at large."

Obilo said Okot's journey is a testament to the power of determination and resilience in pursuit of one's dreams.

"From her humble beginnings in volleyball to her rise as a basketball star, Okot's story inspires countless athletes to reach for the stars and never give up on their dreams," he concluded.
