Daystar too strong for TUK on KHF league

It was a morale-boosting win for Daystar, who are headed for the Kenya University Sports Association (Kusa) games in Kakamega on Friday.

Daystar University blanked Technical University of Kenya 30-23 in a Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league clash at Nyayo National Stadium.

It was a morale-boosting win for Daystar, who are headed for the Kenya University Sports Association (Kusa) games in Kakamega on Friday.

“We went slow on this game. We didn’t want to use energy with an eye on the Kusa games,” said Daystar coach Martin Kamau.

“I gave all my players a chance. I only brought my senior players when they  (TUK) closed in at 20-19.”

“After I steadied the ship, I again made changes and the boys did well until the end of the match. I am happy with their effort.”

Daystar took a close 22-20 advantage at half time and were lifted by Philip Kiplagat, who lead the scoring tally with seven goals.

Beian Barasa, Branndon Barasa and Amos Okwako scored four goals each for the winners. Oliver Valetine had five and Alan Ombati and Polycarp Rakama had four a piece for the losers.

Julius Birenge led the winners with eight goals and Samuel Waiganjo hit five. Mamba had 10 goals from Bethwel Kiprop and five from Sidney Omondi.

It was a fruitful weekend for Engineers, who had hit TUK 35-24 on Saturday. Birenge was at it again with 11 goals and Wanganjo added seven.

Julius Ng’ang’a led the students with eight goals while Mikel Okulo added five.

League leaders Ulinzi led 15-10 at the break but went on to settle for a 26-26 draw against Strathmore University.

Abel Weru and Franklin Kiplagat shot four goals each. Eshiton Situma had nine and Lotyam Mike had seven.

Amazon pipped New Hope 22-21 in a mowen’s encounter. Nelly Kanazi tallied eight goals and Rose Atieno bagged six for the winners.
