Kisii School storm Nyanza region region 15's semis

Kisii School started their title defence with a hard-fought 7-0 win over Friends School Anjego from Migori County.

Nyanza region 15s champions Kisii School stormed the semifinals as the regional Term One games entered Day Two at Kisumu School on Thursday.

Kisii School started their title defence with a hard-fought 7-0 win over Friends School Anjego from Migori County. Bejil Ochieng landed the only try, converted by Matrix Matangi.  

In the second game, Kisii School — enjoying the support of their principal Fred Mogaka — thrashed Nyabondo 22-0.

Despite the loss, Anjego coach J.J Masime commended his players.

“The boys played well on regional debut. As I said earlier, we are here to make our mark,” said Masime, the school principal.

Kisii School coach Hesborn Chweya said: “The first game was scrappy. Anjego is a good team with a good and experienced coach. The second was easier and we look forward to our next game against Agoro Sare. We want to defend our title.”

Former champions St Mary’s Yala and Maseno School also recorded impressive wins. St Mary’s Yala thrashed Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho 65-0 while Maseno overcame St Paul’s Gekano 29-0. Nyabondo upset Agoro Sare 12-5 in the other game.

In boys’ basketball, Onjiko School, coached by principal Joseph Were, sailed to the semis after recording an emphatic 101-25 win over Ototo Mixed.

In the opening game, Onjiko scored another century in a 100-41 win over St Joseph’s Rapogi. Former champions Agoro Sare warned their rivals with a 38-35 win over rivals Nyanchwa Boys.

Nyakach Girls qualified for Friday’s semis after winning their two opening games.

They beat Juk Jowi 50-39 and thrashed Mokomoni 83-11. Favourites Ng’iya Girls hit St Barnabas 63-21 and silenced defending champions Ototo Mixed 51-30 to sail to the last four with a game to spare.

“So far so good. We are daring and have the energy to go all the way to the final,” said Ngiya coach Naftali Ambala.

In boys’ hockey, former champions Kisumu Day were held to a surprise 1-1 draw by Ringa Boys while Ngere beat Kanga School 3-0.

In the girl’s category, defending champions Nyamira Girls walloped Andingo 6-0 as Ageng’a drubbed Ngiya 3-2 in a tough game. Rae Girls sent Kisii’s Amaiko Mixed packing after edging them 3-0.
