Technical University of Kenya blanked Buccaneers Junior 39-25 in a Kenya Handball Federation league clash at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

It was the campus lads’ first match of the season and they took time to get their groove but still went onto the break with a deserved 20-15 cushion.

But after the resumption, they raced away with Rakama Polycarp leading the way as he raked in 18 goals while Oliver Valentine added five.

“It was a good match but boys are still not fit at all after starting our training two weeks ago when the college opened,” said Tuk coach Lawrence Wafula.

“I have a couple of players who are still new in the team and this match will help us prepare adequately for the next round of matches.”

The Junior side had eight goals from Ephraim Emonvor while Stanley Ngacha posted four.

Kitale-based Trans Nzoia led by a close 15-13 margin at the breather and went on to drub University of Eldoret ‘Pipers’ 37-26.

“My challenge is that I had only seven players available for this match but I am happy with the result,” said Trans Nzoia coach Solomon Kimalewa.

“This is our first experience in the league and we are still in a learning process. Once we get our footing, we will battle for a top-six position.”

Ephraim Ndege scored 12 goals and Dan Ngoni added eight for the victors while Nehemiah Kiplagat and Kevin Rotich shot five each for the students.

UoE, who also made the trip to Nairobi for their first assignments this year, lost all their four matches on the card.

Trans Nzoia and Rangers met for their second matches of the day and it was the Kitale side who prevailed 33-30 in this ‘Western’ derby.

Colin’s Barasa tallied nine goals and Kevin Wasike shot seven. Rangers’ Abel Kemei scored eight and Dalmas Khaemba six. Both sides tied 15-all at halftime.

Bungoma-based Rangers beat Kenyatta University 30-23. They led 25-10 at halftime and had six goals from each of Richard Simiyu and Jeff Muyani.

KU, who did well to dismiss Desert Scorpions 41-32 on Saturday, had eight from Willis Musimbi and six from Kelvin Macharia.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) subjected UoE to a narrow 27-25 beating.

Dolan Bwibo tallied nine goals and Derick Mwatha had five for the Juja side. UoE top scorer was Kiplagat with nine and Rotich with eight.
