Busia Ajax knocks out Eagles from Global Appeal Football tournament

Ajax scored the first goal in the 24th minute through Cyrus Egwapit from a set-piece.

Busia Ajax on Sunday knocked out Butula Eagles from the Global Appeal Football tournament with a 2-0 victory at Busia County Stadium.

Ajax scored the first goal in the 24th minute through Cyrus Egwapit from a set-piece before captain Edwin Okarikodi added the second in the 85th minute from the spot.

In the other match played at Busia Polytechnic, Division Two leaders Obucuun Border FC beat Mundika United 2-0 to move to the round of 16. Their goals were netted by Didmus Okumu and Filex Adungul.

In the second match at Busia Stadium, Busia Fusion Academy trounced County League side Aboloi FC from Teso North 4-0 with Timothy Ochom scoring a brace and Abdalla Egesa and Khamisi Omar scoring one goal each.

Bumala Allstars earned qualification without kicking the ball after  Machakusi failed to show up.

The same was for Simuli Youths who qualified for the next stage after Kakemer, also from Teso North, failed to show up. Real Busia were equally lucky with Kamolo failing to honour the match.

Jobless FC from the sprawling Marachi estate beat Kodedema's Kifaru FC from Teso South 4-2.

Masters hammered Burumba Diamond 5-1 while Mundulusia beat Kabkara 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

In another match, Bulanda Youths also won on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time while Aterait beat Murende Highlanders 3-2.

The event was formally launched by Busia Women Representative Catherine Omanyo, making Busia the first county in the Country to roll out the tournament before it’s cascaded to other counties.

Omanyo, who is also a member of the Sports Committee in the National Assembly said they have set aside over Sh85 million for construction of a Complex Stadium in every county, noting that it will be a one stop shop with training facilities and hospital among others.

Teams participating in the tourney will walk home with impressive awards.

Global Appeal will award male winners Sh30,000, first runners-up will bag Sh15,000 while second runners-up will pocket Sh10,000.

The winners in the ladies’ category will receive Sh25,000 with the second and third placed teams set to pocket Sh15,000 and Sh10,000 respectively.
