Mudavadi dismisses poll fears, says 2027 vote will be peaceful

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has assured Kenyans that the August 10, 2027 General Election will be free, fair and peaceful, urging the public to ignore what he described as propaganda aimed at creating fear over the country's electoral process.

Speaking on Saturday during the Annual General Meeting and a fundraiser at Emusire High School in Emuhaya, Vihiga County, Mudavadi said Kenya's Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to vote every five years and expressed confidence that the country would once again conduct peaceful elections.

"We have only one constitution, and it guarantees every Kenyan the right to vote. Those beating drums of disunity and spreading ethnicity are enemies of democracy. Kenyans should ignore their call and focus on the agenda to exercise their constitutional right and vote," Mudavadi said.

He said Kenya has consistently held elections after every five-year cycle and maintained that the 2027 poll would follow the same path.

"History has proved that after every five years, Kenya has conducted peaceful elections. We have always come out as a united people. In 2027, it will not be different, and there will be no shortcut. We will hold elections, and they will be peaceful," he said.

Mudavadi criticised sections of the opposition, accusing them of spreading misinformation and urging Kenyans not to be swayed by political messaging that, in his view, seeks to undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

He also questioned calls by some opposition leaders to reverse government policies, saying Kenyans should assess what such proposals would mean for ongoing development projects.

"Those saying they want to be elected to reverse the policies and gains being made by President William Ruto should be questioned. What do they want to reverse? Do they want to reverse the roads that are being constructed? Do they want to reverse the health gains being made? Do they want to stop the SGR project that aims to bring a railway station at Luanda here in Bunyore? Do they want to reverse the strides being made in the education sector, the employing of more teachers? What policies do they want to reverse?" Mudavadi posed.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary urged residents of Western Kenya to remain united behind President William Ruto's re-election bid in 2027. He also outlined what he described as a longer-term political strategy for the region.

"Let us remain focused on helping President Ruto win his second term. After the win, as the Luhya community, we now begin strategically planning how to bring the Presidency through one of our own to this region. If you listen to me carefully and follow the direction I am giving, I assure you that this will be done, and I am there to lead our people," he said.

Mudavadi further cautioned against tribal politics, saying national unity should remain a priority ahead of the next General Election.

"Propaganda can be very destructive, and it destroys the best things that are happening for our region and our people. We need to remain focused and be in the winning team," he said.

He added: "Na tuepukane na ukabila, Kenya sio taifa la ukabila. Kenya ni taifa moja na hatutakubali watu wa kueneza ukabila, hatutaki kuchagua wakabila. Tuwe chonjo sana na tuwe macho kama wakenya."

The Emuhaya meeting was part of a series of engagements Mudavadi has recently held across Western Kenya, following earlier visits to Trans Nzoia and Kakamega counties, where he also met Tiriki elders and opinion leaders. According to the organisers, the meetings are aimed at engaging residents as political mobilisation activities continue ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mudavadi was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Jane Imbunya and Beatrice Inyangala, Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba, UDA National Vice Chair Kelvin Lunani and several Members of County Assembly.
