Nakuru to host the third series of Masters hockey league

To play in the masters league, a woman must be over 35 years while a man must be over 40 years and above.

Six teams have confirmed participation in the third series of the Masters' hockey tournament slated for Nakuru on November 5-6.

Nakuru County Hockey Association will organize the event in collaboration with  Kenya Hockey Union.

Mvita XI Hockey Club, Daikyo Heroes Hockey club, Mombasa Sports Club(both gender), Mombasa West Hockey Club and Swans Hockey Club are among the teams expected for the event.

Blue Ocean Chiefs among others are yet to confirm their availability."Some teams have not yet confirmed their participation. The confirmation deadline is on Sunday," Jacob Githinji from NHC Communication Office said

Technical University (Mombasa), Pwani University, and Kenya Coast National Polytechnic as well as junior clubs in the leagues are some of the teams tipped to be part of the competition.

This follows a survey series conducted before the first series masters tournament which did not qualify Kenya as being able to have a critical mass of different age groups for the tournament.

Githinji added that they are determined to attain international masters status to participate in the world's tourney as well as give retired hockey players a chance to showcase their talents. 

"Our main agenda is to bring back old hockey spirit into the hockey community," said Githinji.
