Turkana residents have protested the imminent arrest of Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, citing political witch-hunt.

The EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak had on Friday said they will arrest a sitting governor over the alleged forgery of academic documents.

But residents have protested this move.

A resident Daniel Losoru said EACC should have arrested and arraigned Governor Lomorukai before elections.

“EACC should have arrested Governor Lomorukai and sought his prosecution through the office of the DPP before elections if he had indeed forged academic documents as alleged,” he said.

Lomorukai was elected on ODM ticket to succeed Josphat Nanok who served his two terms.

“This is purely political witch-hunt. I may not have supported him during elections but he was duly elected by a majority and the will of the people has to be respected. Leave the Governor alone!," he added.

Another resident Festus Erukudi said Lomorukai should be given a conducive environment to serve the people of Turkana.

“I just heard EACC are intending to arrest a sitting governor on matters of academic qualification. How would someone just conclude its Lomorukai,” Erukudi said.

He said he will be the first to defend him on the malicious attempt to divert the will of a Turkana voters.
