A provisional squad of 48 swimmers has been selected ahead of next month's Cana Zone 4 Championships in Lusaka, Zambia.

The team was selected following the KSF counties championships held at the Kasarani Aquatic Stadium over the weekend.

County caucus swimming chairman Kenneth Karani said the swimmers will train for the next three weeks before departure to Zambia. KSF are planning to take 30 swimmers to the regional championship.

Nine counties graced the two-day event including hosts Nairobi, Kajiado, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Nakuru, Machakos, Kiambu and Mombasa and Kilifi.

"It was a highly successful championship. New talents are being unearthed in the country and we thank the counties for sending their swimmers to the championships.  We will have more in the months to come,” said Karani.

Karani expressed confidence that the swimmers who will get the nod to compete at the Cana Zone 4 championships will do the country proud.

"We have a good crop of swimmers and I believe they will do the country proud," he observed.

Seahorses Swimming Club finished top of the boys' rankings with 11 medals, eight gold and three silver, followed by Hydra Swimming Club, who had six gold and two silver medals. Makini School were third with 18 medals, five gold, seven silver and six bronze.
