The third edition of the five-part Nyamira Great Run series which was scheduled for Sunday has been postponed.
The Nyamira North 10km road race will now take place on October 17, said Nyamira County Sports Minister Grace Nyamongo and Athletics Kenya Nyamira County secretary George Ogeto.
Nyamongo said they reached a decision to postpone the race after consultations with Athletics Kenya Nyamira County and Nyanza South regional officials.
“We decided to postpone the race to give athletes more time to prepare. As you are aware, most of the athletes participated in first and second events of the series," he said.
"We want them to recover and prepare for the Nyamira North 10kms and other upcoming events including the Nyamira Great Run 21kms race.”
She said the race will start at Nyamusi Market and finish at the proposed Esanige Stadium.
“This is an opportunity for upcoming athletes to exploit their talents. From the two events at Ensoko and Nyakongo, we have witnessed upcoming and talented athletes take part,” she noted.
Ogeto said: “The athletes need time to recover after the grueling Masaba North 10km last week. We don’t want them to burn out ahead of the main event.”
The Manga Sub County Cross Country which was supposed to be held on October 17 has been pushed to October 21.
The organisers will set new dates for the Nyamira South Sub County 10km meaning the main event the Nyamira Great Run 21kms scheduled for October 31 may be rescheduled too.
