The imminent resumption of football is music to the ears of promotion-chasing Vihiga Bullets.

On Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta gave the green-light for sports to return with guidance from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sports and now all indications are that football will resume as soon as next week.

Bullets are fully focused on their promotion pursuit which looked remote prior to the start of the 2021 National Super League campaign.

The Edward Manoah-tutored side have defied odds to emerge as one of the contenders for the two direct promotion slots.

With the season heading towards the halfway stage before the government suspended all sporting activities to control the spread of the deadly coronavirus, Bullets were 4th on the log.

“Our  plan is to fight for a place in the Premier League. That is our sole objective this season. With an experienced squad and coach (Manoah) who has been there and done it, it’s not a pipe-dream,” said assistant coach Milton Kidiga.

While admitting that the Covid-19 enforced suspension may have taken the wind out of their sails, Kidiga remained optimistic they will hit the ground running when the season resumes.

“We hope all our players will come back to team training at a good level. We have given them individual training schedule and if they strictly abide by it, we will be okay,” added the Bullets assistant coach.

Kidiga touted the unity in the squad as one of the key factors in their bid for promotion. “The squad enjoys a lot of harmony whether someone is on the match-day team or not. We don’t rely on individual performance of a star player but team work and long may that continue,” he concluded.
