Tanui, Kerubo rule at Kip Keino Classic

Olympics 10,000m silver medalist Paul  Tanui won his 25-lap specialty at the Kip Keino Classic World Athletics Continental Tour at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday afternoon. 

Tanui clocked 28:06.90 ahead of Hillary Kipkoech and Yosei Mneria, who clocked 28:22.28 and 28:26.77 respectively. 

"I am glad that I have emerged victorious because the race was indeed a tough one. I have run in many other races but this was different because it is the first in a long time," Tanui said. 

Second-placed Kipkoech of Kenya Defence Forces similarly admitted that the race had stretched him to the limit. 

"It was quite tough but I had to push myself nonetheless and am happy with the results," he said. 

In the women's 400m hurdles, Kerubo Nyagisere of Nyanza emerged top ahead of Carol Waiganjo and Elizabeth Kimuyu. 

Kerubo timed 62.29 whereas Waiganjo and Kimuyu clocked 64.82 and 66.09 respectively. 

The one-day event began in the morning a 20km walking race for men and women, which were won by Samuel Gathimba and Grace Wanjiru. 

Gathimba, the 2019 African Games  gold medalist, clocked 1:22:56 to finish ahead of Simon Wachira and Erick Shikuku who clocked 1:28:14 and 1:30:20, respectively. 

Wanjiru, the 2019 African Games silver medalist, overcame Silvia Kemboi and Naomi Chepkirui to take top honours.
