Butali Warriors' seasoned striker George Mutira has vowed to fight for a starting role in the team amidst stiff competition in their forward line.

The signing of Festus Onyango from Strathmore Gladiators means that the defending champions now have four deadly forwards ahead of the new season. Others are former Police duo of Calvins Kanu and Amos Barkibir, who was the clubs top-scorer with 11 goals.

Mutira, who was the top scorer in 2018 with 23 goals, welcomed competition adding that the department is blessed.

"It is good to have competition because it brings about results. I am not afraid to fight for my number because I have done it before. Do not forget that a standard team has four forwards. The new guys are young and we just need to support them with the experience we have," said Mutira.

The Premier League title-winning striker said he has no specific target this season as long as the team wins every available title irrespective of whether he scores or not.

"We have to win everything that comes our way. Even without scoring I can assist. I know that every striker is measured by the goals but there's no point in scoring goals and walk trophy-less at the end of the season. As long as the team is doing well, I have no problem."

Mutira lauded the impact of the new coach Godfrey  Wakachunga and tipped him to deliver trophies the way his predecessor, Denis Owoka, did.

"Wakachunga is my mentor. I have worked with him before. He is an achiever. The training and conditioning have been superb so far. We just need to work on our formation to be ready."
