Nairobi City Stars head coach Robert Ndubuisi has hailed the impact and performance of Ugandan striker George Abege in the Kenyan Premier League.

The lanky forward has been instrumental at the Kawangware-based outfit since his arrival in the off-season—scoring two of their five league goals in the on-going campaign.

Abege was impressive in last weekend’s 2-1 win over former KPL champions Sofapaka at Kenyatta Stadium, scoring the winning goal to hand ‘Batoto Ba Mungu’ their third defeat of the season. The Nigerian tactician was full of praise for the striker.

“He is a great finisher and quality striker, who can win matches for us. He has already proved his worth in the few matches he has played and with his current form, I know he will give most defenders a tough time,” said Ndubuisi. However, the coach believes there is still more to come from Abege.

“In terms of scoring goals, he’s doing a fantastic job—but as far as I am concerned—he’s not yet where I think he should be. I still expect a lot more from him,” added Ndubuisi.

Team-mate Kevin Ochieng said his side is aiming for top eight finish this season after a bright start to the campaign, where they are currently placed 10th with nine points.

“The win over Sofapaka has given us confidence that we can challenge for a top eight slot come the end of the season. We are not scared of facing anyone,” added Ochieng.

Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars assistant coach Benjamin Nyangweso is happy to be back at the club and hopes to deliver on his return. Nyangweso has been re-called to the club to assist head coach Robert Matano after a two-year hiatus. Nyangwesso is not new to Ulinzi and title chases, having won a number of titles with the soldiers in the past. With his appointment, he will get the chance to re-live the old good days and says he is looking forward to it.

“It is a great honour to be back at the club I love. I have been sitting on the sidelines watching and it is a good feeling to be able to contribute to the club.”

“I do hope that we can do well here and win something again. Together with the head coach, we will strive for success as we have a chance,” he added.

Ulinzi have six points from seven games played in the KPL.
