At least 14,000 homes in Kitengela and its environs will be connected to the internet within the next three months.

This follows the rollout plan of the first phase of Safaricom Fibre to Home project that plans to reach 40 per cent penetration in the area within the said period.

Once complete, residents will have access to internet speeds ranging from 5Mbps to 40Mbps on a monthly basis, depending on one’s preference.

This will be accessed through a wireless or a local area network connection.

“Our plan is to ensure that every customer that needs fibre connectivity at their homes across the country can access it affordably and at zero installation cost,” Safaricom regional sales and operations director Steve Okeyo said.

Other towns that are targeted in this phase include Athi River, Buruburu, Ngong Road, Runda, Ruaka and Karen.

The mobile operator currently has 95,000 homes connected to its fibre infrastructure.

According to the firm’s 2017 sustainability report, their fibre footprint in the country stands at 4,700 kilometers connecting 54 towns in at least 46 counties.
