Radio Africa has added a new gem onto their already lucrative list of stations under its wing.

Smooth becomes the new kid on the block as it goes live on air today.

The new station will be accessible via the FM frequency 105.5 and for 24 hours, it will be the home of soothing music, grooves and blues seven days a week.

"The radio station is for the mature sophisticated audience that has been craving for this kind of music," Radio Africa CEO Patrick Quarcoo said, "There was always a gap in the market for this specific product. Smooth will fill that need perfectly."

Adding, "Now, all the over 32-year-olds in Nairobi will have a music destination that caters to their every need."

Smooth will be home to grooves from stars like Kidum, Celine Dione, Lionel Richie among others.

Quarcoo added that "Nobody knows the presenters, as yet. For now, Smooth is all about the music."

It will be broadcast in and around Nairobi's environs up to 80 km to 120 km.

This comes after a gutsy move by Radio Africa to embrace digital innovation by moving XFM to Kenya's number one streaming app, Songa by Safaricom.

This is the first mainstream radio station to go 100% digital.

Kenyan rock music fanatics can now experience the station in a new and exciting way. To get the station on Songa dial *812# on your Safaricom line or download the Songa app from Google Play.

The radio promo for XFM's new move reads, "This is not goodbye. Rather, we're loading out here. And loading in full blast... with real nonstop music on Songa. So, let's get real with XFM. Now online and on your mobile."
