FUSION band Sarabi came back home yesterday after a successful outing at the Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark.

The Roskilde Festival was started in 1971 by students and has grown to be one of the largest music festivals in Europe and the largest in Northern Europe. Among the headline acts at this year’s edition included American rappers Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj.

Sarabi uses traditional Kenyan rhythms mixed with benga and western influences to create one distinctive sound. The members of the band are Haron Waceke, Christabel Were, Nelson Akelo, Antony Kimangu, Bernard Oduor, Adam Mwadama, John Maluni and Peter Mbau.

Their first live performance in Denmark on Friday created a huge buzz in the media area — they were asked to be a part of a gigantic five-hour closing concert on the Arena stage at Roskilde on Saturday night.

After their Saturday performance, Sarabi became the first African band to perform twice in the same year at the Roskilde Festival.
