Candy Records CEO Joe Kariuki has officially joined politics.

Kariuki, who built his name in the entertainment industry after he set up the music and film recording label, says his move to become a politician is not personal, but “induced" — he says he gave in to pressure from the youth he has been working closely with as the label's creative director.

“I have been working with many youth on a lot of projects, both in and out of the entertainment industry. I have always been so attached to the welfare of the young people of this country and that's why they have challenged me to seek an elective post to push the work even further,” he said.

Kariuki will contest the Lang'ata constituency parliamentary seat on a TNA/JAP ticket in the 2017 polls.

He will be launching a community recording studio in Limuru today, a project he has funded to the tune of Sh5 million.

On Sunday, he will join other TNA leaders in launching the Nairobi West Ward TNA offices.
