Built between 1593-1596 by the Portuguese, the sole purpose of this fort was to act as military fortification for the Portuguese living in east Africa.

Today one can tour Fort Jesus for the price of Sh200 for adults and Sh100 for children.

The non-resident is Sh1200 approximately. One can take a tour of the place and witness the torture rooms that were used for the slave trade, Canons that were used in war by the Portuguese, and prisons where slaves and personnel were kept.
