Instagram link previews can now be displayed on Twitter as of Wednesday.
This is after Instagram removed its Twitter card support back in 2012.
The link previews are now back. Now, when users share an Instagram link on Twitter, a preview of the post will be shown in the tweet.
Before, only the URL of the Instagram link was displayed.
At that time, Instagram founder Kelvin Systrom said the reason he removed the Twitter support card then was that Instagram wanted to take control of its content and the company wanted images to be viewed on Instagram as opposed to twitter.
In a post, Twitter acknowledged, “If you want to share your latest Instagram post on the twitter timeline too, you’re in luck: now when you share a link to an IG post in a tweet, it’ll show up as a card with a preview of the photo.”
The previews will apply to the android, iOS and web.
