Born, raised and educated in Nairobi, I started working at an early age of 19 with KQ where I worked for many years in different capacities. It was a very interesting journey where I built strengths, friendships and realized that I had a passion for pursuing and sharing meaningful change. I also had an opportunity to travel and see the world, many great experiences and memories. About 4 years ago I took off from KQ and now I work for a travel technology solution company called Amadeus. I work in the commercial department and I’m still pursuing my mantra of making meaningful change in my customer’s businesses. I’m married to Muthoni and blessed with Nadine and Nigel.
Most of the time, I’m up by 530am, sadly on weekends up by 6am/630am. I guess side effects of the weekday routine. The first thing I do when I wake up is stay up in bed and pray.
For breakfast I usually take cocoa with milk (no sugar) and 3 slices of brown bread. This has been my breakfast for a while due to health reasons. ( before this life sentence, I used to eat dinner left over with bread).
I work in sales and 95% of the time in the field. It means I have to plan my customer visits way in advance. The visits are planned according to objectives and priority. Amadeus promotes responsibility and team work, so most of the time I manage my time and work, occasionally I do contact my line manager for escalations or advise. By end of the day, I’m beat because of the sales pipelines and objectives. I try as much as possible to push any emails I have while on the go and leave the bulky or technical email to respond to in the evening when I get home. There are good and bad days depending on the outcome of meetings and sales objectives. In general I have a very good relationship with my customers which sort of motivates me.
Lunch, I’m trying to do veggies only on Tuesdays and Thursdays (my 2015 resolution) while the other days depends on whatever is available. For my afternoon, it’s time to slow down on the visits and evaluate the morning meetings. I normally schedule the heavy laden agenda meetings in the morning. I try to get home by 530pm.
For supper, I really don’t have a say in what is to be cooked. I just eat what I find at home. One thing for sure, dinner is always delicious. I guess my wife took the hint when we got married that though I was born and bred in Nairobi, I’m a Rabai (from the coast) and I love delicious and spicy food.
I later on supervise my son's homework, then catch up with my wife. I have to watch comedy with my son (we love Bernie Mac sit-com). Thereafter prepare him for bed. I try and read at least 1 page of a book or browse on the net. There is this bad habit I inherited from my dad, try and get sleep by watching TV in the sitting room and drag myself to bed by 10pm. A habit I need to stop this year.
On Saturdays, I wake up early and jog around the estate. It depends, morning section I might stay in and clear any emails or prepare end of week sales report. Mid-morning to late evening finish any joint errands with Muthoni. I’m not a rave guy, most evenings, I’m normally in the house.
On Sunday is naturally a family day, go to church with my family. Thereafter go for lunch. Go home and try to clear any sleep arrears, ready for next week’s hustle and bustle.
