How to tell if person you are dating is a narcissist

The disorder is mostly found in men, not women

Narcissism is a personality disorder that makes people feel more important and prioritise their needs over the people they interact with.

The disorder is mostly found in men, but a few women also suffer from it.

When dating a narcissist, it’s never easy to break up with them because they will do something that they know will make you stay.

For instance, when you ask for a breakup in the morning, at lunchtime he sends flowers and chocolate to your workplace.

1. Needs constant praise and admiration

A narcissistic partner constantly makes you praise their deeds, whether good or bad.

In real sense, they are hiding their not-so-good deeds.

Despite messing with you in a thousand ways, he will constantly remind you about that birthday surprise or vacation.

Their conversations are always full of discussions about them and telling you to praise them.

When the discussion tries to shift to be about you, they quickly make it about them.

2. Sense of entitlement

Narcissists want to be the centre of attention, they always brag about their accomplishments, trying to impress you.

They are also entitled to their opinions and don’t want to be convinced otherwise.

These opinions are mostly those which are likely to hurt you in the relationship.

For instance, a narcissist will tell you they are right to cheat because he is a man.

He does not expect you to change this notion they have, but instead abide by it and allow them to cheat.

3. Exploits others without guilt or shame

Their exploitation is visible in very minor ways, which you might ignore as basic but they really matter.

For instance, when they are rude to you publicly, do not listen and walk ahead of you.

They might even decide to ignore you on dates, ignoring you and picking calls when you're talking to them.

A narcissist also lacks empathy. For example, you cancel a date due to a minor illness, and instead of wishing you a quick recovery, he gets mad that you couldn’t make it.

4. Frequently demeans, intimidates, bullies or belittles others

Narcissists act superior because deep down, they feel inferior and they are always demeaning other people, classes, ethnic groups or races.

They also look down upon people who mean 'less' to them, like a waiter, gardener or house help, and bow to the mighty, like politicians.

A narcissist partner will always make you feel less of a person even in the relationship.

They randomly make comments like, 'You are nothing without me so you cant leave me.'
