I distinctly remember the first time my fiancé took me to a revolving restaurant.

I was like “Huh! I have never been to a restaurant that keeps spinning around like a merry-go-round!”

Indeed, revolving restaurants, often situated atop towering hotels or other high-rise landmarks, offer diners a unique experience with an epic view from the side.

Luckily, here in the capital, there are two rotating restaurants, one at KICC and one in Westlands, that you can hit up for a culinary experience with a literal twist.

The View Restaurant, Movenpick.

The View Restaurant is among the revolving restaurants in the capital, featuring a terrace that sits 24 floors above the ground.

Visitors can take a high-speed elevator that will take them to the highest point in just 70 seconds.

At the restaurant, diners can enjoy a seafood, and vegan feast as they get a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of Nairobi and the alluring nightscapes.

Situated high up on the 24th floor of Movenpick Hotel, the restaurant revolves around the room to complete a full 360-degree rotation every 1 ½ hours.

The rotation is so smooth you do not even notice, ensuring that diners enjoy an ever-changing perspective of the city.

Not only that, but the restaurant also features a menu that offers fresh seafood, as well as over 20 kinds of cold and hot dishes, soups, mains, and desserts.

Their prawns are a menu favourite that features chunks of juicy meat paired with soy sauce and ginger.

The hotel also serves authentic European, Swedish, and Swiss cuisines.

For me, it is a perfect spot for a romantic dinner date but a crowd can be accommodated under certain circumstances.

The setting is more intimate, with a soothing ambience and music.

The restaurant is safe and the staff is accommodating with exemplary levels of professionalism in their service.

Booking and time

It is open for lunch at noon and dinner up to 11 pm, Tuesday through Sunday.  However, the kitchen closes early on weekends by 9 pm, but guests can have their meals up to 9.30 pm.

With only 17 tables at the restaurant, it is best if you make a reservation first before going to the hotel.

I had Pan-seared King prawns, a hot starter for Sh2200. They had moist, medium-firm flesh and a rich flavour. A mixture of sweet and salty

My fiancé had baked camembert (with cheese) for Sh1800. If you are not a lover of fried cheese, this option will not work well for you.

The flavour of Camembert can be described as mushroomy, eggy, garlicky, nutty, milky, grassy, and/or fruity. The sauce that comes with it helps balance everything out.

By the time we were having our main, we were a little full.

For the course, we both had lamb racks, which I would highly recommend other than a steak if you are looking for something that is not chewy.

The meat is tender and very juicy. A rack of lamb is always sure to impress. Not only was it a great-looking cut, but was tender and loaded with flavour.

For our dessert, we had Tiramisu and a lemon tart.

For the meal and other costs such as refreshments and drinks, we spent a total of sh.14, 000 which was worth it, from the food to customer service; talk about 7-star treatment.

Book your table at The View and enjoy smart-casual dining, offering a variety of tasty dishes.
