Chicken tikka is a very authentic, flavorful and filling Indian inspired dish that you can enjoy with friends and family in just half an hour.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breasts; cut into cubes
  • ¾ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tsp. garlic; minced
  • 1 Tsp. ginger; grated
  • 1 Tsp. chili powder or paprika
  • 1 Tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 Tsp. garam masala
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil (olive)

For the tikka masala;

  • 1 Tsp. coriander; powder
  • 1 Tsp. garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 yellow onion; diced
  • 1 Tsp. garlic; minced
  • 1 Tsp. ginger; grated
  • 1 Tsp. paprika
  • Tomato paste
  • 1 cup canned coconut milk
  • cilantro chopped
  • Lemon wedges to garnish

Preparation

Step 1

Using a medium bowl, prepare the marination by combining the chicken, yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, ginger, chili powder, ground cumin, garam masala, and salt. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2

Take a pan and on medium heat and add oil then add the marinated chicken pieces and cook for 5-6 minutes until lightly browned.

Step 3

Set aside the cooked chicken pieces. Using the same pan, add the onions and garlic and sauté until the onions are translucent. Then add the garam masala, salt, turmeric powder, paprika and coriander, sauté for 4 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the tomato paste with a little water and cook for a couple of minutes. Once the sauce is thickened add the coconut milk and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Once the tikka masala starts bubbling add the chicken back to the pan and allow the masala to simmer for 10 minutes on a low flame.

Step 6

Add in the chopped cilantro and turn off the heat.

Serve the creamy chicken tikka masala with a bowl of rice. Enjoy!
