Azimio MPs boo, walkout on CS Ndung'u during budget reading

Azimio coalition MPs walk out of parliament in anger before the reading of Budget 2023-2024 by Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u on June 15, 2023.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance allied MPs have walked out of the National Assembly after Treasury and National Planning CS Njuguna Ndung'u stood up to read his budget statement.

The MPs also booed at the CS as he continued reading the budget before they walked out.

Ndung'u continued reading the budget statement under the direction of Speaker Moses Wetang'ula.

The Azimio walkout was spearheaded by Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi.

This is President William Ruto's first budget as head of state.

Ndung' u arrived in Parliament on Thursday afternoon for the announcement of 2023-24 Budget estimates.

The CS was accompanied by PS Chris Kiptoo among others.

Ndung' u started his journey along Harambee Avenue from his office at Treasury Buildings.

He rode in a black Passat as police walked on the sides as he headed to Parliament Buildings.  

Upon his arrival at 2:31 pm, he was received by National Assembly's Finance and National Planning chairman Molo MP Kimani Kuria and his  Budget and Appropriation counterpart Ndindi Nyoro.
