Former US president Barack Obama has eulogised veteran singer Tina Turner as someone who was unstoppable.

In his message of condolence, Obama said the singer was a powerful figure who always said and sang the truth.

According to the former US president, Turner who was the queen of Rock 'n' Roll did this through all seasons.

"Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was unapologetically herselfβ€”speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy. Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade," he said.

She died on Wednesday, at the age of 83.

Turner had suffered a number of health issues in recent years including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure.

She rose to fame alongside husband Ike in the 1960s with songs including Proud Mary and River Deep, Mountain High.

Tina Turner was famed for her raunchy and energetic stage performances and husky, powerful vocals.

She won eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 as a solo artist, having first been inducted alongside ex-husband Ike in 1991.
