A former MP from Western Kenya has closed his wines and spirits shop along Thika Road after auctioneers descended over an unpaid micro-finance loan. After losing election, the politician was advanced a loan to restock his then-flourishing liquor shop but huge debts have threatened his financial stability. The micro-finance agency had obtained orders to dispose of the goods and recover Sh10 million. Over the weekend, officers from the agency landed in the leafy suburb and carted away liquor worth millions. The former lawmaker had also had lost his Nairobi home under the hammer a a month ago over bank-related debts.

Corridors is informed the official was invited to the bonding meeting, but despite accepting the invite earlier, he was a no-show at the House on the Hill. The politician who has been very critical of the Kenya Kwanza administration reportedly sent a message to one of the Jubilee leaders who attended the meeting saying he would not make it. There are reports that the politician could have received instructions from influential stalwarts to skip the session.

Opposition bloggers have been on his case, tearing into his track record and ridiculing him over his past statements. The political heavyweight has been hobnobbing with influential figures in the presidency and has signalled willingness to work with the government. In past elections, he was also quickly making about turns and singing tunes to the regimes in power.
