The Nairobi Aviation College has defended itself against claims it awards students fake certificates and offers unapproved courses.

Speaking when they appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Education, the top management of the college said they are certified by the Ministry of Education.

College board chairman Peter Manyuru said they are regularly inspected by the ministry.

“We have been operating for the last six years with the ministry having full knowledge of our existence. It is not fair that we all of sudden became a bogus college,” he said.

Manyuru dismissed individuals interviewed in NTV’s expose Certificates of Doom.

“Those were not our staff. We don’t know who they are,” he said.

Manyuru said they only identified a receptionist purportedly captured on camera registering a “standard six dropout”.

She has been suspended, he said.

The management, including principals from various college branches, was taken to task over the allegations.

Committee chairperson Sabina Chege said they will give the college a fair judgment.

“As of now we treat what is said about the college as rumours until we investigate,” she said.

The committee is expected to summon officials from the Education ministry.

Manyuru said the college is not certified to offer aviation courses, but “is in the process of registering” with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

“As you know the process of certification is very long. We are now in stage three. We will soon be fully certified,” he said.
