ODM Party Disciplinary Committee has summoned Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma and Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga over the wrangles in the county assembly.

Ranguma and Ruth have been summoned alongside the assembly chief whip Isaiah Onyango to shed light on the persistent wrangles in the assembly.

The committee chairman Fred Athuok said yesterday the three should appear before them on Monday at Kisumu Town Hall.

However, Onyango and Ranguma’s political adviser Philip Obiero said they have not received any summons from the party.

Ruth, Cord leader Raila Odinga's sister, was unavailable for comment.

The summonses come after ODM leadership had warned party-sponsored leaders in all counties that the party will not condone any form of misconduct and impunity that put devolution at risk.

Speaking to the Star on the phone, Athuok said they have sent summon letters to the three leaders.

He said Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong’o appeared before the committee last Thursday over the wrangles.

Athuok said they want to establish the root cause of the infighting that "has greatly affected service delivery to residents".

“We want to hear from these leaders why the county has turned into a battle field instead of them focusing on development,” he said.

The committee chairman said some of the issues reportedly causing the wrangles are political interest and lack of proper coordination among county leaders.

Athuok said the committee will take appropriate action to restore sanity in the Kisumu assembly after the hearings.

The wrangles saw majority leader Samuel Ong’ow and deputy majority leader John Olum suspended over gross misconduct on April 29, after party secretary general Ababu Namwamba referred the matter to the disciplinary committee.

Namwamba said swift action will be taken against leaders who do not obey party rules.

The move came after members of the assembly disagreed on who would chair House sessions following county speaker Anne Adul's exit.

Deputy speaker Pamela Omino was injured during a scuffle after she was allegedly wrestled by a serjeant-at-arms.

Raila had proposed that Omino chair the sessions, but a group of MCAs led by Ong'ow wanted Kondele MCA Gabriel Ochieng’ to chair the sessions.
