Sweet and spicy cucumber salad

Cucumbers contain magnesium, potassium, and vitamin K. These 3 nutrients are vital for the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system.

Cucumber is made up of 96% water. The water can help keep you hydrated. Plus, the fiber boost they give you helps your gut system stay healthy and avoid constipation.

Ingredients

  • 3 English cucumbers, halved and sliced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ½ cup diced red onion

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, sprinkle the cucumbers with salt.

Step 2

Allow the cucumbers to sit with the salt so that the juices drain.

Step 3

In a pan, over medium heat, saute the red onions with the remaining ingredients.

Step 4

Toss to combine the onions with the cucumbers and put in the refrigerator for an hour before serving.

Enjoy with your favourite chicken or fish.
