An MCA aspirant has donated Sh800,000 bursary to 278 students from Matulo ward in Webuye West subcounty.

Steven Kaiser promised to champion education in Matulo if elected in August.

"Education is very key as it is the only equaliser for the poor and the rich; that is why in my governance I will invest more in this sector," he said.

"I want to urge those who have benefited today to focus on their studies so that in future they can come back and help more poor people from this region."

Residents praised Kaiser for the donation.

If the money is shared out equally, each beneficiary will receive Sh2,877.

Andrew Kitofu, a retired school head and chairman of Stephen Kaiser Foundation, said Kaiser has been paying school fees for bright students from less fortunate families.

"It is not easy to do such things from your own pocket and Kaiser has done much while out of government. As the chairman of this summit, I'd like to ask residents of Matulo ward to rally behind him in the August polls," he said.

Protus Wakhungu, a parent of a beneficiary student, thanked Kaiser for enabling his daughter to go to school.

"I am just a boda boda rider who earns peanuts. I did not know how I was to pay my daughter's school fees but today mheshimiwa Kaiser has come to our rescue," he said.

Zephaniah Wachia said the country needs more leaders like Kaiser.

He said they are disappointed with the area MP and former leaders.

"It is like for the past 15 years we have not had leaders in this area seeing as how undeveloped Matulo is. We want to vote in leaders like Kaiser who are selfless and have our interests at heart," said Wachia.
