Bukusu council of elders have faulted parents who have started circumcising their children before August.

The council chairman Richard Walukano said it was taboo.

“Bukusu's had reasons on why they set aside August as the month of circumcision, so I don't know why some of us are going against it,” Walukano said.

He said it was taboo to carry out a circumcision ceremony while people were still planting.

“We are only required to carry out this activity when we have harvested our crops and that's August,” Walukano said.

He regretted that parents were rushing to circumcise their boys under the pretext that there is an election in August, which was wrong.

The chairman said elections will be carried out in a day and the month had more days which they can use for the activity.

He asked the parents who had started performing the ceremony to stop and wait for the appropriate time.
