Man narrowly escapes lynch mob after stabbing girlfriend in Mwingi

Police said they were living together but quarrelled on Wednesday leading to a fight

A 24-year-old KMTC student narrowly escaped death on Wednesday evening after an angry mob attempted to lynch him for stabbing his girlfriend in Mwingi town.

The man whose name was not immediately revealed is accused of stabbing his girlfriend Faith Makau after an argument.

The two are students at the Kenya Medical Training College in Mwingi.

Mwingi Central subcounty police commander Peter Mutuma said the two were living together in a rented house in Katumba area of Mwingi town.

They got involved in an argument on Wednesday evening prompting the man to stab the 20-year-old lover.

Following the commotion, members of the public attacked the man while others rushed the woman to hospital.

The angry mob wanted to lynch the man but police quickly arrived and saved him.

They had threatened to douse him with petrol and set him on fire. The man had sustained serious injuries from beating before police rescued him.

He was also taken to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital where the girlfriend was also receiving treatment. Doctors said her condition was serious.

Mutuma said police were waiting for the duo to recover so they can help in investigations.
