Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has appealed to political leaders to engage in dialogue to have a peaceful Kenya ahead of the next General Election.

Speaking after the Sunday service and a funds drive at Matinga Baptist Church in Kibwezi constituency, Kibwana said his meeting with presidential aspirants among them Deputy President William Ruto was not an indication he wanted to deputise anyone.

Kibwana, who is serving his second term, said he was in the presidential race and made it clear that the meeting he had with others was to ensure the country will not degenerate into chaos after the 2022 polls.

“Leaders must hold continuous dialogue on peaceful 2022 elections. Peace for Kenya is greater than an individual winning the presidency,” he said.

Kibwana has also met Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua over a possible alliance.

He said he had a right as a Kenyan to meet any political leader and revealed his intention to meet all the presidential hopefuls including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ODM leader Raila Odinga and Maendeleo Chap Chap leader Alfred Mutua.

Kibwana, who was accompanied by Machakos chief of staff Mwengi Mutuse, challenged the church and all stakeholders to preach peace ahead of the 2022 polls.

“Kenya needs a strong prayer movement that has to start from the church. Leaders should also be advised to preach peace so that we have a peaceful Kenya after the next polls,” he said.

On Sunday, two people lost their lives following a fracas in Murang’a county ahead of Ruto’s arrival at a church function.
