Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir and former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko have unveiled their 10 point agenda for Mombasa county if elected to succeed Joho.

Reviving Mombasa's economy is Nassir's top priority while Sonko's main agenda is the creation of jobs for women, youth and people with disabilities.

“Our administration will stop harassment of investors and business people to create a conducive business environment for business to thrive,” Sonko’s manifesto read.

He is expected to officially unveil his manifesto on Saturday as he launches his campaign.

Nassir’s second pillar will provide clean drinking water and touch on the perennial issue of sewer and stormwater services that have bedevilled Mombasa for years.

Sonko’s second agenda touches on the drainage issue where he said his administration will redesign the city without any interruption of activities and have the drainage system fixed.

Nassir’s third pillar touches on solving public transport challenges with the fourth pillar focusing on prioritising social welfare by improving the quality of life for the people.

Entrenching good governance is his fifth pillar with reforming the county finance and investing in education forming the sixth and seventh pillars respectively.

The MP prioritised the county’s cohesion and the elimination of criminal gangs and battling the drug menace in Mombasa under his eighth pillar.

Nassir also plans to modernise solid waste disposal and leverage technology for development in establishing a smart city as outlined in pillars nine and ten.

Sonko’s third pillar touches on the issue of garbage collection where he plans to acquire land to set up a power generating plant to produce recyclable energy.

In his fourth pillar, Sonko will rehabilitate existing public hospitals in the county.

“We will make health care services accessible to all for free through NHIF,” the manifesto read.

Sonko put water and agriculture under his fifth pillar where he plans to engage the national government and other partners to improve water infrastructure and set up more reservoirs for a continuous supply.

He will create supportive infrastructure and establish favourable laws that will support the growth and development of the fishing industry.

Education has been featured under his sixth pillar where he plans to increase the amount of money meant for bursaries and improve the existing early childhood development education centres.

Sports, Youth and talent form part of Sonko’s seventh pillar where he plans to set up sports stadia in each of the six subcounties.

“On matters arts and culture, my administration will develop talent centres to nature the youth. We believe that sports and culture is one of the sectors that can be used to address youth unemployment,” read his agenda.

On pillar eight Sonko plans to rehabilitate all county roads and introduce a new traffic system.

“My administration will also endeavour to complete all ongoing projects initiated by my predecessor,” read the manifesto.
