Kenyan talent was put to test on a major worldwide stage and spotlight last night. The Moipei sisters (above) performed at the opening of a major NBA game.
The sibling-only band is made up of the Moipei triplets Mary, Marta and Magdalene and their younger sister Seraphine. They are renown for their mastery of music from classical, African, opera, gospel and pop.
Yesterday they used their voices to mesmerise the audience by performing the American anthem before the San Antonio Spurs played against Clippers. Their younger sister, Seraphine was not present. The triplets are studying at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Once they got confirmation of their performance, the talented Moipeis announced their performance on Facebook.
They wrote, “On Sunday, one of our biggest dreams will come true. We will be singing the American anthem for the San Antonio Spurs vs. LA Clippers 4th playoff game. Truly, “no matter where you come from, your dreams are valid.” To God be the Glory.”
The group’s climb to success and recognition is peppered by awards and performances at top establishments. In June 2006 they were appointed the first ever UNICEF Child Ambassadors in Kenya.
In 2007 they received the Head of State Commendation Award (HSC) by the then President of Kenya, His Excellency Mwai Kibaki, in recognition for their outstanding contribution to the Music Industry and the Nation.
