In Summary

  • Screening should commence as soon as possible, especially at travelling points
  • The ministry should also hold sensitisation campaigns all over the country

The Ministry of Health should act swiftly and provide guidelines on how to control the spread of the red eye disease (conjunctivitis), which has become rampant at the Coast.

The ministry should direct that all public places such as schools and hospitals have hand-washing stations and sanitisation points like we had during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Infected individuals should be advised to isolate until they recover to avoid infecting others. I am of the opinion that screening should commence as soon as possible, especially at travelling points like the SGR, airports and bus stations, so that those found to be infected can be barred from travelling.

The ministry should also hold sensitisation campaigns all over the country to inform people how the infection spreads, its signs and symptoms and how it is managed.

Coastal counties and other dry areas should be given priority in these campaigns because of their hot weather, which speeds the spread of the disease.
